MAC listed & Permaphalt Gold Approved by Permanite... "the country's leading manufacturer of Mastic Asphalt"
Each year Raynormastic complete many small asphalt roofs. The time required to complete a small roof, weather permitting, is usually a single day. Mastic asphalt really is a superb product for small roofs. It is usually done in two and sometimes three layers, with any joints in the under-layer melting into the top layer to form a seamless layer (simple genius). As regards weight, a mastic asphalt roof is light-weight, and suitable for most if not all, roof renewals. As regards price, mastic asphalt is very competitive, especially when you take into account the longevity of properly maintained mastic asphalt roof. As regards asthetics, it was first developed to provide waterproofing for roofs designed at the beginning of the last century. Mastic asphalt thereforeblends in beautifully with older buildings.
The first job is to unload the materials and set up the asphalt mixer.
Prior to mastic asphalt installation, the skirtings have to be primed with high bond primer.
The molten asphalt is taken from out of the mixer and carried to the roof in metal buckets. The asphalt is then poured by Stuart and layed by Baz. As you can see the top layer is poured onto a first layer thus sealing any joints.
This asphalt roof is laid upon a concrete sub-roof (asphalt is suitable for a variety of sub-roofs including ply-wood, floor boards, chip-board). Prior to installing the asphalt an isolating layer of black sheathing felt is put down, this ensures that any movement of the sub-roof does not crack the asphalt.
This roof took about half an hour to install each layer. It also had to be levelled up using asphalt to ensure no water stands on the roof.
A layer of solar reflective paint protects the roof from sun damage. Note that the white of the roof soon weathers and blends in.
